The Short Break Centre provides specialist respite care for adults with physical and learning disabilities. It is part of the Alan Shearer Centre and is set in over an acre of stunning, accessible grounds which include a sensory garden, woodland walk and specially adapted play area. We offer everything from an overnight stay or weekend break to longer holidays and our expert staff provide professional support for people with even the most complex needs.

There are eight bedrooms, each with a colour television as well as its own temperature control and call system. The rooms are double glazed and sound proofed for added comfort and safety. Additional facilities are available for guests who need high levels of care and supervision to enable them to enjoy a planned break tailored to their individual needs.

Full service description:

We enable our guests to spend time away from home, to meet new friends and try fun activities, while relaxing and developing new skills. At the same time this gives parents and carers a break from their caring role; knowing that their loved ones are well cared for during their stay. We offer individually tailored holiday-style short breaks for those with physical and learning disabilities. The centre is completely accessible, offering comfort and safety through adapted bathing facilities and overhead tracking. In addition, each of our eight en-suite bedrooms are personalised, double glazed and sound proofed to ensure that every guest has an enjoyable and safe short break.

Fees vary depending on the time of the visit and the assessed need of the guest. Unique to guests staying at the Short Break Centre is the opportunity to access the on-site facilities available at the Activity Centre on the ground floor of the building. The Alan Shearer Activity Centre is a purpose built centre with outstanding amenities allowing disabled people of all ages to take part in stimulating activities in a relaxing environment. Facilities include: Two private sensory rooms Sensory cave Giant ball pool Hydrotherapy suite Music room Arts and craft room Café Guests staying can also take part in the organised activities and events which are arranged throughout the year at the Activity Centre.
