The aim of the service is to provide short-term care within a safe, homely and stimulating environment and to provide a break from caring in a way that enhances the quality of life of both the guest and their carer.

How do people access your service:

You or your parent, carer, or representative can contact the service directly, at which point we will be happy to discuss the process with you. You will require a carer’s budget or alternative funding stream to be able to access the service.

Are there any restrictions on who can access your service?:

We predominantly serve the people of South Lanarkshire, however we do offer placements to people outwith the local community.

Type of accommodation:

We have seven bedrooms available, all with en suite facilities. The building is distributed across two floors and there is a lift available for people who require this. All bedrooms contain facilities for clothing, storing medications, and a TV. Our lower-level bedrooms have tracking hoists, and we also have mobile hoists available. People supported are welcome to bring any personal belongings or home comforts with them, and they will have access to Wi-Fi.

Cultural needs catered for:

If required we support guests to attend any religious events. We are able to provide special diets, and will discuss cultural requirements with you to ensure we meet these appropriately.

Full service description:

We aim to provide the following:
• Planned short breaks based on individual assessed need
• Opportunities for guests to access leisure and social activities within the local community
• A quality service that maximises the use of local facilities and assists guests to become integrated within the local community
• Opportunities for guests to gain in life experience and to develop skills that enhance independence and personal growth

Guests have the option of attending their usual day centre whilst they are taking a short break. However, many prefer to take part in the numerous alternative activities we have on offer, for example, ten pin bowling, swimming, visits to places of interest, cinema, restaurants and so on. In addition, there are plenty of places just to chill out and relax during your stay.

Rates can vary dependent on the level of support an individual requires. It is best to contact the service directly for this information or ask for advice from a social worker

What is included/not included in the price of the break:

The price includes food, fuel, transport, and staffing costs. Not included in the cost are activities and meals outwith the service.

Sense Scotland supports people who have complex support needs due to any combination of: visual impairment; hearing impairment; deafblindness; learning disability; physical disability and healthcare support needs. The people we support often have communication difficulties, and associated behaviours. We aim to provide short breaks in a range of ways to children, young people and adults that meet their needs, and fit in with family life.
