On this page we bring together all the funds that individuals can apply to for money to pay for a short break that we come across when dealing with requests for information.
We try hard to keep this up to date and we check the details every six months, but criteria often change, and money is used up. Please always speak or write to the fund you are interested in for full up to date information.
Any project labelled ‘Time to Live’ and coloured orange is a project funded through the Creative Breaks Programme of the Short Breaks Fund.

MS Society – Carers Opportunity Fund
Provides grants to people whose caring role has ended and want to develop an interest or return to work.
MS Society – Short Breaks and Activity Fund & Carer’s Fund
Provides grants for short breaks to people in Scotland who have Multiple Sclerosis or their carers.

Parkinsons UK (Mali Jenkins Fund)
Provides grants for short breaks to carers and the people they care for who have Parkinson’s or Parkinsonism.
Please note. The Parkinson’s UK Mali Jenkins Fund has been suspended while they explore alternative options for financial assistance for people affected by Parkinson’s and put new arrangements in place. From May 2015, they are no longer taking applications. It may be worth contacting them to see if they have sorted out other financial assistance.
Royal Scottish Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RSABI)
Provide grants for short breaks to carers and the people they care for who have worked in the agricultural sector for more than 10 years.
Take a Break Scotland
Provides individual grants to help families with disabled or seriously ill children or young people (up to age 20) to have a personalised short break. The Fund is administered by the Family Fund on behalf of Scottish Government.
The Adamson Trust
Provides grants for short breaks to carers of disabled children and the children they care for.
The Douglas Hay Trust
Provides grants for short breaks to people living in Scotland with a physical disability and aged under 18 years.
Trefoil House Holiday Grant
Provides grants for short breaks for carers and the people they care for who are disabled and aged under 18.
NB Trefoil is reviewing the Holiday Grant Scheme and applications are not currently being accepted. They aim to reopen the Scheme as soon as possible. Please check the website for an announcement in due course. (posted 15th April 2016)
Scottish War Blinded
Scottish War Blinded provides funding for veterans and/or their carers to allow them to have a short break. Full details on our website.
