A Time to Deliver...A Manifesto for Carers

What can you do?

Carers and the people they support represent a very large and significant group within the voting community.  The numbers of carers are increasing too and are predicted to continue rising.  This ‘voting power’ could be very important in influencing the content of manifestos in the run up to the 2007 elections.  We would urge people to use this influence and to engage locally with councillors and MSP’s to make views known.  Politicians will give more attention to a letter from a constituent than from and organisation, even one they support.

Copies of the Carers Manifesto can be obtained from Shared Care Scotland or from any of the National Carer Organisations listed at the bottom of this page.  We are also producing a set of post cards that can be used to write to your elected politicians.

We have all the evidence that investment in support services allows carers to continue in their caring role, improves their quality of life and that of the people in their care, and reduces expensive admissions to hospital.  We know what needs to be done…it really is time to deliver.
