Many thanks to everyone that attended our Creative Breaks conference – all 155 of you!  A special mention to all our workshop leaders, our ‘host’ Mike Stevenson, our keynote speakers – Rob Greig, Michael Matheson, Moira Oliphant and Joe Gibson – and to Vicky Nicolson, Gerry McGennity, Stuart Ridge and Louise Morgan. 

These are challenging times with the economic situation such as it is.  Despite this there was a strong sense from all the speakers that progress can be made.  This begins with a greater effort all round to ensure that the short breaks resources we have available are delivering the best outcomes possible. 

By applying our creative talents - and perhaps being a bit more adventurous -  we can also look ‘outside the box’ for new and imaginative solutions to achieving better breaks.  In both cases the success of our efforts will be determined by the extent to which we can engage and involve carers and service users - very people who will use or benefit from the short breaks - as equal partners, in designing future services.
