Short break stories on film
Something to look forward to
In this film carers and service users share their own experiences of respite care, and offer advice on planning and arranging short breaks.
The DVD version includes a selection of other resources which provide additional information on sources of advice and support, along with a selection of case study examples describing different approaches to short breaks and respite care.
The Hegney's story
Our second film is a powerful example of what can be achieved when people work together to provide a tailor made short break service. This short 3min film tells the story of Arthur & Janey Hegney and their son John.

Derek's wife Barbara was left completely incapacitated by a series of strokes in 2003 and, with the help of planned respite care, Derek was able to look after her in the familiar environment of their home, until those last few days.
Black & White (Digital Stories): Christeen reveals how a thoughtfully conducted carers' assessment enabled her to see her life in black and white.
