Full service description:

At Shotts Health Living Centre we provide telephone befriending services for both the cared for person and carers along with day activities which are of benefit to both. Our telephone befriending services include: Talk on Telephone Befriending Service which is for the older person/cared for person to be matched with a volunteer befriender who will call them for a chat on agreed times/days. The befriender will also keep the befriendee up to date with services and activities going on in their area. The befriendee must be aged 65 or over. Talk on Carers Circle of Friends is for carers of older adults, who may be isolated as a result of their caring responsibilities or of geographical isolation, will be matched with similar carers. Once per week they will join in with a conference call of five carers and enjoy a chat with like minded people. The call will last approximately 30 minutes and occasionally group activities will be organised as directed by the carers. This is for carers aged 21 and over. Talk on Well Being Service consists of the older person being called at an agreed time and their well being will be checked. Any concerns or fail to answer shall be referred to the appointed concern responder or emergency services. This service can accommodate short term interventions for example whilst the carer is on holiday or during the Christmas and New Year period.
