Brief description:

The Shetland Befriending Scheme offers 1:1 befriending support to young people, young adults, adults, and older members of our community. Support is provided either weekly or fortnightly for a few hours at a time to undertake purposeful activities.

How do people access your service:

Those under 16 years are referred by a professional working with them. Those over 16 can self refer or someone can refer on their behalf.

Type of accommodation:

For those aged 16+ who are accessing the service, they must be living in their own home. This means that service users must have tenancy responsibilities, e.g. being a tenant of a property, having responsibilities of the property - paying rent/insurance/council tax/etc or owning their own property.

Full service description:

The volunteer and service user can get involved in lots of activities around Shetland, experiencing something new, going somewhere they have never been or learning something new. The types of activities that you can take part in are for example: <ul> <li>Sports activities like badminton, table tennis, swimming,  gym etc</li> <li>Arts and Crafts i.e attending workshops, visiting galleries</li> <li>Visiting places of interest around Shetland</li> <li>Going for coffee or lunch and having a chat</li> <li>Going to the cinema</li> <li>Dog walking</li> </ul>

There is no charge for this service.
