Brief description:

Taymara augments grant funding and the generosity of individuals by providing a season of river tours. Departing from variously Broughty Ferry and Tayport, they are a wonderful opportunity for viewing wildlife, scenery and heritage on Scotland’s largest river. Also, our educational and therapeutic river trips are available for children aged 5 to 18 with serious illnesses and for the children’s parents €“ they are completely free for these families. Taymara exists primarily to serve three target groups: People, in particular children, suffering from severe chronic illness. Disabled people, particularly although not exclusively those with a learning disability. Offenders, for whom our experience and training can provide practical skills. employment prospects and new social avenues.

Full service description:

River trips on the Tay Estuary for carers and cared for people. The trips will expand upon the service we have provided to severely ill children and to disabled adults. Clients will enjoy simple leisure trips coupled with basic maritime activities such as vessel handling, simple knots and basic navigation. Utilising our 3 coded vessels Marigot (45 tons motor cruiser), Badger (7 tons motor launch) and Catalina (a fast moving rigid inflatable boat) we will be offering 1-2 hour sessions on the Tay estuary under the auspices of our fully qualified skippers and crew. Clients may wish to soak up the maritime experience by enjoying the abundant wildlife on the estuary, including seals and dolphins or they may prefer to become more engaged with training on the helm, simple navigation, knots skills, types of buoys, passage planning, radar, radio procedure etc.. Activities will be tailored to meet the needs of each client group. The vessels are fully insured, approved and inspected by the MCA (Maritme and Coastguard Agency). All skippers and crew hold the appropriate certificates. Our other vessel the North Carr Lightship (250 tons), based in Victoria Dock, Dundee, will also be used as a base for briefings, tours and classroom work. All members of crew have a current first aid certificate and are Disclosure checked.

Provided:- Life jackets. Safety briefings, Spray suits (Rigid Inflatable Boat) Not provided:- Packed lunches and snacks. Travel to and from embarkation points. Appropriate footwear, gloves, hats.
