Full service description:

The Link Up Mentoring Service supports vulnerable children and young people across Tayside in relation to parental substance misuse, their own alcohol and/or other substance use and in terms of their own offending / anti-social behaviour. Link Up recruits, trains and supervises adult volunteers to engage at-risk young people in the Mentoring relationship. The service delivers 1-1 mentoring interventions to children and young people from all areas of Dundee / Tayside and works in partnership with statutory services to safeguard and protect children at risk of harm in relation to their own or parent's substance-using behaviour. The mentors and mentees generally meet up once a week for about 2 - 3 hours, spending time together in a variety of leisure activities (such as playing snooker, going to the cinema) during which time they can talk about what is going on for the young person. Where appropriate the mentor may be involved in supporting the young person to achieve targets identified within a wider multi-agency care plan, such as support to attend appointments, re-integration to mainstream school and re-integration to community. Pro-social modelling is a key element of all mentoring relationships. Plusone mentoring is for young people aged between 8 and 14 years and are on the cusp of offending. Young people will often be referred at early stages of antisocial behaviour/offending, they may be struggling to engage positively at school and their relationships both at home and on the street may be causing some concern. The young person is given the opportunity to have an adult mentor who will meet them once a week for 1 year and build a positive relationship with the young person.
