Our short breaks directory lists almost 400 services across Scotland and beyond. The directory is designed to give easy online access to short breaks information to carers, people with care-needs, and organisations that work to support them. You can use the advanced search to be more specific about the type of break that you need in order to search our directory for the most appropriate service.
To get the best results from our advanced search please see the tips below. If you’re still having trouble finding a service that meets your needs our telephone enquiry service might also be able to help.
If you are a carer looking for a short break for yourself, and have no care needs to take into consideration, there are a limited number of carer only breaks on our directory however you may find our planning and funding a break section useful.
If you know the service name you are looking for enter some or all of the name here. If you are unsure of the spelling of the name then you might need to try it one or two different ways, or if you don’t know the name at all, just leave this space blank and the search will bring up more results.
You can use this section to search for a specific area, just click on the box of the area that you want to search in. If you want to include more than one area then click as many as you want to search in. If you want to search the whole of Scotland rather than a specific area then just leave all the areas blank.
Type of Break
You can use this part of the advanced search to look for the type of break that might suit your needs. If you leave all boxes blank then your search will include all different types of breaks.
If you’re not sure what type of break might be best for you, you can find out more on our Services Explained page.
If you are searching specifically for Accessible Hotels, or Accessible Self Catering Accommodation is selected, some of the other types of service and the care needs catered for options are restricted to allow the search system to work.
Care Needs Catered For
In this section you can select which care needs you, or the person you care for, will need for your short break. You can pick more than one by clicking on the boxes, or just leave them all blank for the search to pull in results for services that cover all different types of care needs.
Ages Catered For
Search by one or more ages catered for by clicking on the boxes. Leaving them all blank means that the search will include all age categories.
Keywords are the words that service providers have entered into the description of their service, e.g. volunteers or disabled children. You can search by any key term that you think is important to your break.
Advanced Accessibility Seach
With the advanced accessibility search you can search for services that have specific adaptations, e.g. tracker hoist or staff training in dementia. We recommend that you don’t put too many adaptations into your search as this restricts the results significantly.
These are the adaptations services have made to improve physical accessibility to their premises. Leaving the search boxes blank will bring back all adaptations.
Use the tick boxes here to select an accessible bedroom which is single, double or twin. Leave this box blank to bring back all results.
