Befriending, Clubs or Day Facilities for Short Break/Respite Purposes

Anyone can be referred to the service as long as they fulfil the following criteria- the person has a diagnosed form of dementia, they can care for their own toileting needs while at the Day Club or out with their Befriender and that the person still lives within the community of Stirling and district.
This service is available to people in Stirling and Stirlingshire
The Befriending service takes place at the clients home address. The Day Club is held in a local church hall which is on one level and is accessible by wheelchair. There are also disabled toilets available.
We liaise with family members to establish if there are any additional cultural needs to be observed either by the befriender or at the Day Club. We also ask if there are any dietary restrictions to be observed. Currently we do not have a range of different languages spoken by staff or volunteers.
The Befriending Service provides support and companionship for people with dementia within their own home. Each volunteer befriender is trained and Disclosure checked and they are carefully matched with a client. Most befrienders visit once a week for a couple of hours.

The visit provides mental stimulation and companionship and helps to maintain skills and confidence. The Befriender and their friend make a mutual choice of what activities to undertake.

The Day Club is held on a Monday and Friday from 12.30pm to 4pm in The Hub, Stirling Community Hospital, Livilands Gate, Stirling. Lunch is served and there are lots of different stimulating activities to try in a relaxed and safe supportive environment. There are also occasional trips out to local places of interest.

We also offer a rural Day Club in St. Andrews Church Hall, Leny Road, Callander from 11.30am to 3pm on a Tuesday

The price of the Day Club includes lunch.
This service ideally suits people in the early to moderate stages of dementia and all clients must be continent. As long as these criteria are met we are happy to accept referrals from health care professionals, social care or family members.
