Full service description:

re:discover Befriending Services support you to recover a sense of who you are, by supporting you to discover / rediscover activities and interests you enjoy and connect with services and activities within your local community. You will be matched with a volunteer for up to one year. We will support you to take the lead during your time with the project and set goals / dreams to work towards with the support of your volunteer. To be eligible for a befriender, service users should: <ul> <li>Be isolated as a result of experiencing mental health difficulties</li> <li>Be able to meet with a volunteer outside your home (volunteers will never visit you in your home)</li> <li>Live in Edinburgh, Midlothian or the Scottish Borders</li> <li>Set goals and work towards them</li> <li>Be able to make and keep to agreed meetings</li> <li>Have the need to develop social skills, self confidence and self esteem</li> </ul> re:discover volunteers: <ul> <li>Help build confidence and self esteem</li> <li>Support you in building relationships with others</li> <li>Provide more opportunities for social contact</li> <li>Encourage you to take part in your local and wider communities</li> </ul>

The service is funded by Edinburgh City Council, NHS Lothian and Scottish Borders Council.

What is included/not included in the price of the break:

Service users are asked to pay for their transport and activity costs. re:discover will cover all volunteer costs.
