Riddrievale offers short break respite for up to 9 adults with a learning disability in a spacious and homely environment. We also provide day opportunities and community based respite. All individuals are treated with respect and dignity. Privacy and confidentiality are respected at all times.

How do people access your service:

Prospective service users must have a diagnosed learning disability and are usually referred through a social worker or care manager. We accept people from East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow City, South Lanarkshire.

Type of accommodation:

We have seven bedrooms with en-suite bathroom/shower facilities and two bedrooms that share a large bathroom. These are spread over two floors, six on the ground floor and three on the upper floor. We have a lift to enable easy access to the upper floor. We offer four wet rooms and a hydraulic bath for service users with restricted mobility. We have a variety of shower chairs and hoists available to assist with bathing/showering if required. We have a mini bus with a tail hoist for wheelchairs, and our car park has been adapted to accommodate a ramp to enable wheelchair access.

Cultural needs catered for:

We have a quiet room that can be used for prayer or reflection. Service users can attend the place of worship of their choice and staff will accompany them if required. Individual dietary requirements are catered for. Staff speak English but can connect and communicate with service users using gestures and/or makaton and some BSL. Riddrievale House value service user's ethnic background, language, culture and faith.

Full service description:

Riddrievale offers short break respite for up to 9 adults with a learning disability in a spacious and homely environment. We also provide day opportunities and community-based respite. All individuals are treated with respect and dignity. Privacy and confidentiality are respected at all times. We provide the service on a regular basis to most of our service users thus enabling families who have a member with a learning disability to spend quality time apart as well as together. We offer a range of in-house activities including games, art and crafts, karaoke, and dancing. We have a minibus with wheelchair access and go out and about in the local community as well as further afield. Service users can choose to attend their usual day services whilst at respite, with transport being arranged through their care manager or we can provide daycare if arranged before the visit commences. All activities are tailored to service user's needs and abilities.

What is included/not included in the price of the break:

All accommodation, care and food is included in the price. Service users should have appropriate spending money for their stay to enable them to take part in outings or outside activities. Each person who uses the project will have an individual care plan and their own linkworker.
