I have been a member of the Shared Care Scotland Board for a number of years, fulfilling the role of representing local authorities. Having recently retired from working with a local authority, I remain on the board as an independent member, to continue bringing relevant personal experience, as well as health and social care experience, to the organisation.
I worked within the NHS as a nurse for many years and became interested in finding out more about how people managed in the community following discharge from hospital, often after life-changing events relating to their health and disability. This prompted a move into social work where I spent many years working to support people with disabilities and their carers. My work included policy and operational roles combined. I also came to recognise my own role as a carer over the years and developed a keen interest in carer support, including short breaks.
My interests include taking my own short breaks, reading, keeping myself fit (running and pilates, and hoping to get back into cycling), and I have recently started making my own clothes again now that I have time!
