Brief description:
Shared Lives is a service where you live with paid carers in their home. This service is for people over 16 who have a diagnosed learning disability and stay in Edinburgh. Service users will always have their own room and accommodation is checked by the scheme workers. To be considered for Short Breaks you will have to be assessed as meeting the requirements of the Shared Lives Short Breaks scheme.

How do people access your service:
You will need to be assessed by your social worker. If you don’t have a social worker, then you, a family member, or a support worker can get in touch with the Shared Lives Team on 0131 469 6225 or shared.lives@edinburgh.gov.uk

We work in a person centred way and acknowledge that everyone has different needs. A benefit of our service is the matching process that allows us to ensure that the carer and service users have time to get to know each other before the breaks progress.
Full service description:
The Shared Lives service provides an opportunity for people to stay with carers in a family environment as part of the local community. All our carers are assessed and supported by our team and we provide placements for Short Breaks and longer term care. Short Breaks - we have service users that visit carers for the occasional weekend or up to a few weeks. You will be able to develop new skills and meet new people, get support to become more independent. We will plan for your needs, find the best carer for you to support you and your carer.
What is included/not included in the price of the break:
Accommodation and food are all included. Service users will be expected to pay for their own outings and contribute towards some of the carers' costs- this is negotiable on an individual basis.
