We are delighted to invite you to Shared Care Scotland’s 2017 AGM event and Community Soup!

Where: 101 PARKST Conference Centre, New College Lanarkshire, Kildonan Street, Coatbridge, ML5 3LS
Every autumn Shared Care Scotland host our annual general meeting. As well as taking care of the formal part of our business we hope that this annual event will provide an opportunity for carers and organisations that work to support them, to come together to look at some of the issues around short breaks in a creative and thought-provoking way. We would be delighted if you could join us on Tuesday 21st November in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, for our AGM event and Community Soup.
Annual General Meeting
The day will start with a short Annual General Meeting at 10.25am, to which everyone is welcome. This is an opportunity to hear about our work over the last 12 months and to meet our Directors and staff. The agenda and associated papers for this part of the day can be found by clicking on this link: AGM papers
What is Community Soup?
The idea of a community soup originated in Detroit, USA as a way of community crowdfunding. Possibly inspired by the folk tale ‘Stone Soup’ the original Detroit Soup is now five years old and states that its mission is “to promote community-based development through crowdfunding, creativity, collaboration, democracy, trust and fun.”
The concept is fairly simple: people turn up with some food to share, pay a small fee at the door, and listen to three or four people pitch an idea to improve the local community. Pitchers only talk for a short period of time, and the audience can only ask four questions. When the presentations are over, soup is served. People mull over the ideas and then they vote on their favourite. The winner gets to take home all the money taken at the door and use it to fund their plan, with the promise they will come back three months later to report on their progress. (Source: bbc.co.uk)
Our ‘Community Soup’ will be a little different but based around the same principles. We’ll provide the soup and refreshments (and there’s no fee!) but in return we’ll be asking you to collaborate on one of three short break challenges presented by our friends at Lanarkshire Carers Centre. Then it’s over to you and your group to see what creative solutions you can come up with. At the end of the session you’ll have the chance to ask some questions, then vote for the solution you’d like to see taken forward first.
And finally, in the afternoon we’ll be launching our latest social media campaign. Join us on the 21st to find out more!
Places at previous Shared Care events have gone quickly so please register early to secure a place.
Many thanks to our colleagues at Lanarkshire Carers Centre for assisting us with this event.
