Meeting Centres Scotland
Event description
'A meeting centre in every community'
Lorna and Dawn will showcase the work of Meeting Centres Scotland, highlighting the amazing work of local Meeting Centres. This model follows 11 essential features, ensuring people living with Dementia and their families are leading their own support, a support that is local and that they chose to attend. Meeting Centres are being developed across the country, working in partnership with local communities to achieve the vision of 'a Meeting Centre in every community'. We are delighted to share how a Meeting Centre can and has impacted family carers in a positive way.
What to expect:
Our monthly online learning events aim to foster a community of learning exchange and practice development helping people to stay informed of emerging needs and practices.
We want to provide inspiration at a particularly challenging time for the health and social care sector. These sessions will help participants:
- share experiences and learn from others in the field.
- showcase personalised short breaks provision and practice - in action
- provide a stimulating space for innovative and strategic thinking which can lead to new ideas
All of our webinars are recorded and available on our Vimeo site.
Guest speakers
Lorna Hart-Thomson, Development Lead, West of Scotland
Dawn-Claire Irvine, Development Lead, East of Scotland
Bio of each presenter/contributor
Lorna’s role is to ensure that people living with dementia and their families have the community support they need within their own locality. Lorna previously led the National Dementia Advisor Service at Alzheimer Scotland, as well as her previous role of Dementia Advisor within North Lanarkshire. She has been involved in work with Scottish Prison Service, intergenerational work with schools, as well as building up sustainable groups for people living with Dementia, which took place in a variety of places, such as sports clubs, pubs and hotels.
Dawn covers the East of Scotland, working in the same role as Lorna. Dawn has worked in the world of arts and Dementia friendly communities for many years. Now working for Meeting Centres Scotland, Dawn is able to pull on her knowledge and creatively enhance the support provided to people living with Dementia and their families, reigniting people’s passion for arts, dance and music. Dawn is a professional ballroom dancer and competitive coach, so if there is a dancefloor in the area, you know where to find her!
