Fife Young Carers were formed in 1998 and celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2023, they support children and young people up to the age of 25 years who look after someone in their family who are ill, have a disability, mental health problem or drug and alcohol issues. They are currently funded through our Creative Breaks funding, providing ten holiday respite opportunities for young carers during breaks in the school terms.
In 2024 they were crowned Charity of the Year in the Scottish Charity Awards, this was in the category for charities with a turnover of more than £500,000.
Bio of presenter:
Rebecca Mellon has worked in the voluntary sector for 15 years, focusing on supporting youths and families from diverse backgrounds to achieve their full potential. She joined Fife Young Carers in 2019 as a Support Worker and advanced to the role of Service Manager in 2021. Having been a hidden young carer herself, Rebecca understands firsthand the challenges of balancing a caring role with the hurdles faced by young people. Her passion lies in supporting young carers to reach their full potential whilst being able to manage their caring role.

What to expect:
Our monthly online learning events aim to foster a community of learning exchange and practice development helping people to stay informed of emerging needs and practices.
We want to provide inspiration at a particularly challenging time for the health and social care sector. These sessions will help participants:
- share experiences and learn from others in the field.
- showcase personalised short breaks provision and practice - in action
- provide a stimulating space for innovative and strategic thinking which can lead to new ideas
