Taking a short break means a carer and the person they care for being supported to have a break from their normal routine and the demands of their caring situation. At Shared Care Scotland we believe this an essential part of the overall support for families and carers need.
Short breaks should deliver positive outcomes for both the carer and the person with care needs but working out how to plan and to fund a short break can often seem confusing or challenging in itself. We aim to help carers and those they care for understand what their short breaks options are so that they can confidently make choices about their break and how that is delivered.
We do this through our short break directory and through our short break planner. We also understand that worries about paying for a break can be a barrier for some people so we have put together a guide to funding a short break too.
