Andrew’s story: a corner of calm at home
Andrew has been caring for his elderly father for some time, supporting him with significant mobility challenges and ongoing health conditions that require careful monitoring and medication. Alongside this, Andrew also helps with a range of household tasks to support both his father and mother.
With these responsibilities, Andrew found he had very little time for himself and was beginning to feel increasingly under pressure. Through conversations with his local carers' centre, he felt able to open up and accept support.
During this time, he shared his passion for reading, something he enjoyed whenever he could find a quiet moment at home. The family had also been considering redecorating a space where books could be organised and where Andrew could relax.
With the support of a Time to Live microgrant, Andrew was able to create that space. He purchased a comfortable armchair, footstool, reading lamp, and a selection of books, transforming a corner of his home into a calm and inviting retreat.
“This is amazing for me. I’ve been able to set up a cosy corner to read and relax, taking myself away from everyday stresses. I’m still close by if I’m needed, but this space gives me comfort and a sanctuary to take a break whenever I need to.”
This personalised space has given Andrew a meaningful way to rest and recharge while continuing caring.
“Thanks to Time to Live for providing the microgrant and the trust to create a break that truly matters, making something so personal and special possible for me.”
