Bailey's story - carer and cadet leader

Bailey is a dedicated young carer, supporting a parent who lives with both physical and mental health challenges. Despite these responsibilities, Bailey has found a sense of purpose and belonging through the Cadets - a space that provides structure, community and opportunities for personal growth.

During conversations with Bailey, it became clear just how much the Cadets meant to them. With guidance and encouragement, Bailey successfully applied for a Time to Live grant to help cover the cost of attending a two-week summer Cadets' camp.

The camp offered Bailey a transformative experience. The first week was filled with training, fieldwork and team-building activities, while the second week provided a more relaxed pace, with visits to theme parks and museums. This gave Bailey a much-needed break from their caring role and a chance to focus on themselves.

The benefits didn’t end when the camp was over. Bailey returned with renewed confidence, new friendships, and even earned a promotion to a higher rank within the Cadets.

This opportunity allowed Bailey to step away from their caring responsibilities, recharge, and invest in their own growth something every young person deserves.
