Bryan’s story: portable personal sanctuary
Bryan is a single parent and the main source of support for his daughter, who lives with autism and anxiety; conditions that mean she relies on regular prompting for daily tasks, personal care, and consistent reassurance. At times, her anxiety can become overwhelming, requiring Bryan to remain constantly attentive. Due to his daughter's vulnerability, Bryan must always stay vigilant to ensure her safety and wellbeing.
Recently, Bryan suffered various health concerns that he is coming to terms with. The experience has had a significant impact on his mental health. Alongside the demands of caring for his daughter, he is now also navigating his own physical limitations and mental wellbeing, adding to his daily strain.
During a conversation with his local carers' centre, Time to Live was introduced to Bryan as a potential form of support. With this microgrant, he was able to purchase an awning for his campervan, allowing him to spend time outdoors in a more comfortable and sheltered way.
Spending time outside is a vital coping strategy. These moments give Bryan space for rest, reflection, and a break from daily pressures.
The microgrant has provided more than just practical support - it has offered valuable respite. This has helped Bryan maintain his own health and resilience, enabling him to continue providing the consistent care and support his daughter needs.

"This time spent relaxing for me not only supports my mental wellbeing, but can also play a role in aiding my physical recovery. Relaxing with a cuppa and book really lets me unwind"
