Cael’s story: boxing bringing balance

Cael is a dedicated young carer who supports his sibling, who has a learning disability and autism. He balances school, responsibilities at home, and constant worry about his sibling - often a heavy load to carry.

The pressure often left Cael feeling anxious and overwhelmed. During conversations with his Young Carer Support Worker, Cael shared that he loved boxing and had always dreamed of having his own punching bag. The worker recognised that this could be a positive outlet, a way for Cael to release tension and have something that belonged entirely to him.

Cael applied for a Time to Live microgrant and used it to purchase a punching bag for use at home.

“Thank you. It’s a great way for me to release my tension, anxieties and frustration. It’s something that’s just for me and I absolutely love it!”

The microgrant has given Cael a healthy coping outlet, a boost in confidence, and a space where he can focus on his own wellbeing even while continuing to caring for his sibling.
