Cheryl's story: when the break comes to you
Cheryl provides full‑time, round‑the‑clock care for her husband, who has been left with severe disabilities following a major stroke, including aphasia and apraxia. He now spends most of the day in his wheelchair, and she manages every aspect of his care without a break.
Over time, the exhaustion and emotional strain became overwhelming. Cheryl was completely fatigued, stressed, and unable to see a way forward. Even the idea of taking a break felt impossible. She couldn’t leave the house, and she was too drained to think about what kind of support might help her.
After speaking with a local Carer Liaison Worker, a simple, practical solution emerged: a £50 Time to Live therapy voucher. This allowed a massage therapist to visit Cheryl at home at a time that worked around her caring responsibilities - something she hadn’t even realised was an option.
The effect was immediate and deeply felt. The home visit offered Cheryl a rare moment of calm, comfort, and personal attention - a small but powerful intervention that gave her the boost she desperately needed.

“The difference this made was unbelievable. I felt relaxed and revitalised for hours. It was such a great idea for her to come to my house and not something I’d ever have thought of.”
