Felicity's story: making memories in Blackpool

Felicity, full-time carer for her dad, had originally planned to travel earlier in the year, but her father’s declining health meant she had to postpone. Unfortunately, when Felicity eventually felt able to arrange the trip, her dad passed away.

Shortly after the loss of her father, Felicity decided to go ahead with a weekend coach trip to Blackpool, joining another member of her family. The support she received through her local carers' centre made a real difference. With everything organised in advance, she didn’t have to overthink plans or worry about driving, which allowed her to fully relax.

The break gave Felicity the chance to step away from everything that had happened at home. Travelling with family, she was able to rest on the bus and enjoy the journey from start to finish. Highlights included a visit to a museum and a trip to the circus, both of which she described as "amazing". They also shared lots of laughter along the way and with all meals included, the trip felt like a real treat during what had been a very difficult time.

“I had never considered a coach holiday before, but I would 100% do it again.”

Felicity continues as a full-time carer for her mum and another family member. She explained that this short break has given her the strength and uplift she needed to carry on caring for those she loves.

Looking back on the trip, she added:

“Although he wasn’t there physically, I’m sure my dad came along for the journey.”

“The break gave me space. Being somewhere new, surrounded by people who didn’t know my situation, allowed me to let go of the pressures I had been carrying. It brought me a sense of peace during a very difficult time.”
