Hazel’s story : journey to reconnection
After the loss of the person she cared for, Hazel found the next six months to be an incredibly difficult and isolating time. The nights were especially hard, filled with silence and sorrow. Eventually, Hazel reached a point where she felt ready to begin addressing her grief and taking steps toward healing.
As part of this journey, Hazel accessed a Time to Live microgrant, which offered her the opportunity to take a much-needed break and focus on her own wellbeing. As the nights were the most challenging, she chose to attend evening classes as a way to bring structure, connection, and purpose back into her life.
Through these classes, Hazel not only discovered new interests, but also rebuilt a sense of belonging and support. Her story is a powerful reminder of how small acts of support can make a meaningful difference in the lives of unpaid carers navigating loss.
Hazel said:
“Taking this time for me meant I could reduce my feelings of loneliness and isolation. I decided on needle felting, wellbeing and Tai Chi classes. These had a positive impact on my mental health and helped me reconnect with the local community.”
