Ibrahim's story: making a splash
Ibrahim provides support to his wife, who experiences mental health challenges, and two of his children. One child has autism and another has a physical disability. Alongside caring for them, Ibrahim and his wife are also raising their three other children, making family life busy, demanding and often hectic.
With significant caring responsibilities and some health issues of his own, Ibrahim recognised the importance of taking time to look after his own wellbeing. He wanted to improve his fitness, support his health and create opportunities for regular breaks from his caring role.
After applying to the Time to Live fund, Ibrahim was awarded funding which he used to purchase a year's swimming membership at his local leisure centre. When discussing his plans with his support worker, Ibrahim explained that swimming would provide valuable time for himself, allowing him to enjoy an activity that was both accessible and beneficial to his wellbeing.
Having access to a year-long membership has enabled Ibrahim to take regular breaks from caring, rather than relying on occasional opportunities. The time spent swimming has helped improve his wellbeing, provided a positive outlet for stress and given him something enjoyable to look forward to each week.
The Time to Live microgrant has made a meaningful difference to Ibrahim's life, helping him prioritise his own health while continuing in his vital caring role. Through regular swimming sessions, he has found a sustainable way to recharge, improve his wellbeing and take some much-needed time for himself.

"I really enjoy swimming. It's something that helps me relax but also takes the weight off my joints. I feel refreshed afterwards and glad that I've taken part in an activity that supports my health too."
