Julie’s story: turning notes into moments of peace
Julie is a dedicated carer for her son, who lives with autism and mental health challenges. This involves providing extensive personal care, emotional support, and nervous system regulation, alongside managing everyday practical and domestic tasks.
Julie received a Time to Live microgrant, which she used to purchase a digital piano. Music has always been a source of calm for Julie, and singing is something she has loved for years. Learning to play an instrument has long been a dream, and owning a digital piano meant she could enjoy this at home whenever she needed a moment for herself.
“I’m now learning to play the piano in a way that feels both enjoyable and relaxing. It gives me micro-breaks throughout my day, something I really need. This has helped me feel less stressed, less isolated, and has boosted my confidence.”

“Receiving the grant felt like confirmation that I matter too. It reminded me that my wellbeing is important. When I’m regulated, I can support my son better because when I’m not, it affects him negatively.”
