Katie's story - archery: my passion and my escape

Thanks to a Time to Live microgrant, Katie was able to join her teammates at the Northern Area Outdoor Championships in June. This event was an important practice and team-building opportunity ahead of the Island Games in July 2025.

The experience prepared her for the Island Games, where she placed 6th in the women’s recurve event, and her team came 4th in the team recurve. However, Katie's proudest moment was going on to win the silver medal in the mixed pairs recurve head-to-head, alongside her teammate.

Attending the championships gave me more than just respite - it allowed me to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and strengthen bonds with my team.”

“This grant didn’t just fund a trip - it gave me space to breathe, grow, and achieve. It reminded me that while caring is a big part of my life, I am also an athlete, a teammate, and someone who can aim for and hit big goals.”

“Archery is my passion and my release from caring responsibilities. It’s the one thing I do that is solely for me, giving me an identity beyond being a carer”
