Kevin's story - planting seeds of hope
Kevin cares for his father, who faces significant mobility and cognitive challenges following a stroke. Support goes far beyond personal care. It encompasses emotional support, practical help, and long-term planning.
Emotionally, Kevin is a lifeline for his father’s wellbeing - even when this takes a toll on his own mental health. Despite the challenges, he continually encourages a positive outlook. The demands of caring have deeply affected his personal life. He rarely has time for his own interests and often feels guilty when taking time for himself.
Kevin was awarded a Time to Live microgrant to join a community allotment project. With this support, he purchased equipment, plants and seeds, and arranged for his partner to care for his father on Saturdays so he could attend. This opportunity has had a profoundly positive impact on his wellbeing.
The project brought increased physical activity, social interaction, and a renewed sense of purpose. It also sparked unexpected joy in Kevin’s relationship with his father.

“I would highly recommend this kind of break to other unpaid carers. It has helped me feel recharged, more balanced, and better equipped to continue caring for my father.”
