Naledi’s story: planting seeds of joy
Naledi cares for her son, who has Down Syndrome. During term time he receives some additional support, but at home Naledi is responsible for all his personal care, meals, supervision, and safety, as he has no sense of danger. Alongside this, she is raising two other children. Naledi loves finding activities they can all enjoy together, though she knows this isn’t always possible.
After speaking with her local carers' centre, Naledi learned about Time to Live microgrants and discovered that breaks could take place at home. She was delighted to receive a grant that allowed her to buy large pots, potting compost, vegetable seeds, and shrubs to brighten up the garden.
“This is good and appreciated. Everything is usually about the cared‑for person, and it’s such a pleasant change not to have to fight for something or fill in endless forms. Just to receive something for me for my own interests, something I enjoy but also something I can share with the children.”

“We can talk about planting and nurturing the shrubs together. It’s so good. The funding made me feel seen and appreciated.”
