Peter's story: finding joy in the stands

Peter, who lives in a remote rural community with limited transport links, is the full‑time carer for his wife following her recent dementia diagnosis and a stroke. Over the past couple of years, his caring role has intensified, leaving him feeling increasingly isolated. With little access to respite and few opportunities for social connection, Peter found it difficult to maintain relationships or enjoy time outside the home.

A life-long football enthusiast, Peter used a Time to Live grant to purchase a season ticket for his local team. This gave him a structured, reliable way to meet a friend at matches, enjoy something he loves, and take meaningful breaks from his caring responsibilities.

“With the matches planned in advance, my son and daughter‑in‑law were able to coordinate support so I could attend. It gave me consistent respite breaks and a much‑needed outlet for social interaction and enjoyment.”
