Quinn's story: serenity on Skye
Quinn, 19, is a dedicated young carer who supports their father as he navigates severe mental health challenges and alcoholism. The responsibility of caring for him combined with the constant worry and emotional strain has taken a significant toll on Quinn’s own wellbeing.
In conversations with their carer support worker, Quinn often spoke about their deep love of music, especially live performances. Music had always been a source of grounding and joy. At the time of applying for the Time to Live grant, Quinn felt overwhelmed, exhausted, and emotionally drained.
“When I applied for the grant, I felt like I had nowhere to turn. I could feel myself heading toward burnout because of the emotional weight of caring and constantly worrying. I asked my carer support worker if I could join my friends at a music festival on Skye to have something to look forward to.”
The grant made it possible for Quinn to attend the festival. It offered a vital break from caring, a chance to reconnect with themselves, and be surrounded by friends who understood and supported them. It gave them space to unwind, breathe, and rediscover joy.

“Having that time for myself made such a huge difference. I was with friends who were there for me if I had a wobble of worry.”
