Stacey and Mike's story: making memories through music

Stacey and her dad, Mike, share caring responsibilities within their family, balancing the demands of everyday life while supporting those they love. As a young carer, Stacey helps care for her mum, who lives with physical disabilities. She also provides support to her younger brother, who has ADHD and a learning disability, and her older sister, who is autistic. Alongside this, Mike works while also caring for his wife and children, making caring a significant part of daily life for both father and daughter.

While some days can be more challenging than others and family life can sometimes feel unpredictable, one thing that consistently brings Stacey and Mike together is their shared love of music. Music is woven into everyday life in their household, whether they are listening to favourite artists, discovering new songs, or talking about upcoming concerts. It provides enjoyment, connection and an important way to unwind from the pressures of caring.

With encouragement from their social worker and Young Carers' Advisor, both Stacey and Mike applied to Time to Live for Ticketmaster vouchers. The vouchers gave them the opportunity to enjoy live music together, while also giving Stacey the flexibility to attend events with friends if she wished.

Mike said:

"I am so glad we were encouraged to apply to Time to Live and that we could have something that was just for us and centred around what we love. We have a lot on our plates at times, so this was something we could look forward to and plan together. Stacey is a great kid, and we have such a strong bond. There is no other way I would rather spend my time."

The Ticketmaster vouchers have provided more than just access to concerts. They have created opportunities for Stacey and Mike to step away from their caring responsibilities, spend quality time together, and enjoy experiences that focus on their own wellbeing. Having the flexibility to book tickets in advance also means they can decide around their caring roles and have something positive to anticipate.

Through their shared passion for music, father and daughter have been able to create lasting memories, strengthen their relationship and enjoy valuable respite from the demands of caring. The vouchers have offered much more than a night out. They have provided connection, enjoyment and precious opportunities to focus on themselves, reminding Stacey and Mike of the importance of taking time to live as well as care.

"The Ticketmaster vouchers allow me and my dad to spend time together, enjoying music that we both love. So far, our favourite concerts were Lionel Richie and ELO, but we’re looking forward to seeing more bands together in the future."
