Tracey's story: Disney, puzzles and precious family time

Tracey is a full-time parent carer to her two children, both of whom have physical disabilities. One of her children also has autism. Her children have very different and complex support needs, and rely on Tracey throughout the day for help with all aspects of daily living, including dressing, washing, eating and personal care.

Both children require constant supervision, reassurance and support. They can find changes to routines difficult, so Tracey works hard to provide consistency and structure, carefully helping them manage each day in a way that feels safe and familiar.

After discussing support options with her support worker, Tracey applied for a Time to Live microgrant. She used the funding to purchase a Disney+ subscription and a monthly puzzle book subscription, giving both herself and her children something enjoyable to look forward to.

"As well as being out in the garden with the boys, we also love to watch films. Sometimes they are happiest when they are watching a programme or a film, and they both absolutely love Disney characters."

The Disney+ subscription quickly became a valuable source of entertainment and relaxation for the whole family. It created opportunities to spend quality time together, enjoying favourite films and discovering new ones.

Tracey's subscription to a monthly puzzle book service allowed her to enjoy a hobby that supports her own wellbeing, while still spending time with her children.

"I can sit with them and, while they're watching a film, I can settle into a puzzle. I love doing puzzles and we can all have some downtime together."

The Time to Live grant provided more than just entertainment. It gave the family opportunities to relax together and created moments of calm amidst the demands of daily caring responsibilities.

"The grant helped me cope better with life. Having puzzle books arriving every month was something to look forward to and it really helped my mental and emotional wellbeing."

Through the Time to Live grant, Tracey and her family have been able to enjoy meaningful time together at home, creating moments of comfort, connection and relaxation that continue to support the wellbeing of the whole family.
