Yasmin's story: spa experience at home
Yasmin is an unpaid carer for her partner, who lives with traumatic PTSD and anxiety, and is rarely able to leave the house. Alongside her caring responsibilities, Yasmin also experiences her own mental health challenges, making it difficult for her to take time away from home or access traditional respite opportunities.
Through support from her local carers' centre, Yasmin spoke openly about the challenges she faces when trying to take a break. While she recognised the importance of having time to recharge, she felt uncomfortable leaving her partner alone and knew that taking trips or breaks together outside the home was not a realistic option.
With guidance from her support worker, Yasmin explored alternative ways of prioritising her wellbeing from the comfort and safety of her own home. Through a Time to Live microgrant, she was able to purchase a foot spa, foot massager, soothing foot soaks and relaxing lotions, allowing her to create a calming spa experience at home.
Yasmin expressed her sincere gratitude for the Time to Live fund and the opportunities it provides to unpaid carers, recognising the difference that even small acts of support can make to everyday life.
"Having the option to use a grant to have a break at home was great for me. The flexibility meant that the grant supported both me and my partner, allowing us to take time together and relax. It has really helped both of us mentally and has had a positive impact on our wellbeing."
The home spa experience has become a valuable part of Yasmin's self-care routine, helping to reduce stress, improve relaxation and boost energy levels. By investing in complementary therapies that can be accessed at home, Yasmin has found a practical and sustainable way to support both her own wellbeing and that of her partner.
