Zac’s story: escape to the stars
Zac, a dedicated young carer, provides vital daily support to his sister, who lives with Cerebral Palsy and additional complex health conditions. From assisting with aspects of care to helping manage a range of household tasks, he takes on significant responsibilities with compassion and maturity beyond his years.
During a conversation with a young carers' support worker, Zac shared his passion for astronomy - a hobby that offers him both comfort and a sense of joy. With support, he applied for a Time to Live microgrant to purchase a telescope that can be used both indoors and outdoors, making it easily accessible whenever he needs it.
This opportunity has given Zac more than just equipment. It has provided a meaningful way to build resilience, manage stress, and take time for himself while continuing to care for his sister.
With thanks to Time to Live, the telescope enables Zac to step away when things feel overwhelming, providing a simple but meaningful form of escape and self-care. This opportunity has made a lasting difference, helping build resilience while continuing caring.

“I love astronomy. It’s my way of relaxing, and learning about the universe helps me switch off and unwind. When things at home feel overwhelming, I can step outside into the garden and use my telescope.”
